Dupe Alert!!! Mac Brave & Kiko 918

I come to you today with a dupe! I've never done anything like this before but I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity when I realised how similar these two lipsticks are!
I will be showing you the similarities and differences between MAC's lipstick in the shade Brave and Kiko's Clever lipstick in the shade 918.

We can't buy Kiko in Ireland so that might be a little bit of an issue for my Irish readers. I do believe, however, that you can order it online. I managed to grab a few bits when a small business project opened selling Kiko in my school.

The first similarity is they smell the exact same. I wanted to see if they were made in the same factory but they aren't. They both the same vanilla scent that MAC lipsticks are famous for.

When swatched on the hand they look very similar but it's not until you but them both on your lips that they even more identical.
Brave is a bit pinker than 918 and 918 is slightly browner but there is very little difference between the two.

These both have different textures. This is the major difference. The MAC lipstick (which is a Lustre formula) is almost matte and has a satin finish. The Kiko lipstick however has a very moisturising texture that is quite reminiscent of the Essence Sheer and Shine lipsticks.

It is quite glossy but is the contrast worth talking about.

The MAC lipstick applies smoothly and all you need is one layer for a full coverage.
The Kiko lipstick however needs a bit more encouragement. A couple more layers will give the desired affect.

There is a huge cost difference. MAC lipsticks retail at €19.50 while Kiko lipsticks retail at €3.90 (but they have a sale on at the moment and are being sold for €2.90). Needless to say my purse prefers the Kiko option.
The Kiko lipstick isn't very longlasting and needs frequent topping up.

These two lipsticks are very similar and I would recommend buying the Kiko version if you are on a tight budget.

I'm going to Spain next week where I'll be able to buy Kiko so if you have any recommendations please leave a comment!

Makeup Routine For Blue Eyes - Pale and Interesting

Today I will be showing you my makeup routine for blue eyes.
If you didn't know, I have blue eyes and I'm sure many of you do too.

I love the way my eyes stand out when I wear this look and now you can try it out yourself.

I prep my face with the Benefit POREfessional primer. This has a silicone-ish texture.
I use my fingers to apply this and you only need a small amount. I focus it on the center of my face and use less as I move out over my face.

For foundation I've been using the L'Oreal True Match foundation in the shade R1C1. I apply it with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.
I'll admit, I don't love the foundation but it matches my skin and it's hard to find foundations light enough.

My choice of  concealer today was the NYX Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer (bit of a mouthful,eh?). this is the thickest concealer I own and it was completely necessary as I woke up with horrible under eye circles this morning. It is a salmon toned concealer that manages to hide the most repulsive of imperfections.

I used the Real Techniques MultiTask Brush when applying powder. the powder I used was the Essence powder which has been mentioned on this blog before.
I dusted this under my eyes and on the general t-zone area.

Today I used the Natural Collection blush in the shade Peach Melba.
This is a new favourite of mine. I had totally forgotten about these products until last week when I rediscovered them. They are hella cheap and very natural shades.

I used the NYX Powder Blush in the shade Taupe to contour.
I love to use this because it quite subtle and easy to control.
I used the Real Techniques Contour Brush to apply this.

I started my eye look by using the MAC Pro Longwear Paintpot in the shade Painterly.
You can read my in depth review of this amazing product here.

I first use the MAC eyeshadow in the shade Kid through my crease. I apply this with the Essence Eye Blender brush. This is new to me but so far I really like it.
On top of that I put the MAC eyeshadow in the shade Cranberry. Cranberry is my new favourite eyeshadow. It makes my eyes pop ( I feel so weird saying that) and makes them look so pretty.

My brows have been loving the Makeup Revolution Ultra Brow Arch and Shape. This is a great little product. It's double ended with wax on one end and a felt tip pen on the other.
I combine these two when doing my daily brow routine.

I've been using my Paaul's Boutique eyelash curler everyday.
My current favourite mascara is the Benefit Roller Lash.
You can read my review of that here.

Today i tested out a new lipstick. It was the MUA Matte Lipstick in the shade Fawn Fancy.
I like this lipstick. It's quite drying and a top up during the day does not apply too well but it's a pretty shade and is very cheap.

Oh, and btw if you noticed what looks to be rubbishly applied mascara applied mascara under my right eye it's just freckles ;)

Everest Movie Review

This Saturday I went to the movie Everest with a friend. I've decided to do a quick review of it to give you my thoughts and opinions.

First,  let me give you an idea of what the movie is about.

The main character, Rob, works for a company that brings people up Mount Everest. Each year they have a lot of competition as many companies are in that business.

The climbers that are introduced to us and they all have very different backgrounds. Some are parents, some have devoted their lives to mountaineering. Whatever their background, they are all experienced climbers (they'd want to be, climbing Mt. Everest).

Before they start climbing, they have to adapt their bodies to the altitude. Each morning they climb from Base Camp to the next camp along the way.

They move on and try to catch windows of opportunity for walking in.
Crazy stuff happens and it's all very nail biting.

Now let me tell you my opinions.

I didn't feel an emotional connection with any of the characters, which made it easy when they all bad stuff started happening (that's not a spoiler).

They should have developed the characters and their personalities more.

This isn't a movie for the faint hearted. It isn't very graphic but it is quite distressing in places.
The movie was based on a true story and from what they showed at the end about the original expedition, the movie was true to it.

All in all, it was a good movie but but not much more than that. I would advise you go in 3D because from what I've heard it's a lot better.

I would rate this movie 3 stars

I hope you enjoyed my attempt at a movie review. Let me know what movies you've watched recently and if I should go see them.
